California Poppies (Eschscholzia californica) are resiliant creatures, equally likely to be found thriving in the median of a city sidewalk as on a grassy slope. En masse, the sight of these "cups of gold" can deliver a jolt of velvety sunshine electricity. No wonder they're the poster child for California's iconic scenic route signs.
